Flour Power: Coconut Flour
Have you ever used coconut flour? Like almond flour, it’s a popular alternative to white or whole wheat flour because it’s lower in carbs and gluten-free. Why use coconut flour?
Though coconut typically has a strong flavor, the flavor of coconut flour is fairly mild. Coconut flour is a great alternative to wheat flour for those looking for a lower-carb and gluten-free option. It can be used on its own in baked goods or in combination with other flours. Additionally, it’s an excellent source of fiber and protein making it more filling than traditional flour. Because it’s low in carbs, it produces a much smaller spike in blood sugar levels so it’s great for people with diabetes. It’s also good for cardiovascular and digestive health given the high fiber content.
Storage
Store coconut flour in a cool dark place. It will last longer if stored in the fridge or even the freezer.
Ways to use coconut flour
Coconut flour is an excellent alternative to wheat flour in baked goods such as:

Coconut flour is much denser than other flours so it isn’t recommended to sub it out as a 1:1 ratio. Try searching for recipes that specifically use coconut flour if you’re interested in trying it out.
