Peanut Butter Banana Berry Smoothie Recipe
I’m all for making smoothies any time of year. Even though it’s still winter, smoothies can be a quick and healthy breakfast or snack option. One of my favorite ways to add color to my smoothies is by adding blackberries. I picked so many blackberries last summer that I still have some in my freezer! Keeping reading for my peanut butter banana berry smoothie recipe.
Ingredients
The great thing about smoothies is that you can use any ingredients you have on hand. For this smoothie I like to use:
Banana
I like to peel ripe bananas and stick them in a bag in the freezer so they are ready to go any time I want to make a smoothie. If you don’t have any frozen bananas, you can just use a banana that is at room temperature, but I’d recommend adding some ice as well.
Berries
My favorite are blackberries, but any variety will work. Again, use frozen if you have them or if you don’t just add a little ice to the smoothie. For more berry recipes, try my peanut butter berry baked oatmeal!
Peanut butter
Any nut or seed butter will work, but I personally like the taste of peanut butter. If you have a nut allergy, try sunflower seed butter instead! I recommend using natural peanut butter or try making your own.
Greek yogurt
I use Greek yogurt, which is higher in protein than regular yogurt, but either will work just fine. Because this smoothie contains fruit, there’s no need to use flavored yogurt; just use plain for less sugar!
Milk
Cow’s milk or any non-dairy milk will work for this smoothie. Be sure to choose unsweetened non-dairy milk over the sweetened varieties.
Nutrition
When made with 2% milk and plain low-fat Greek yogurt, this smoothie contains a whopping 8 grams of fiber and 19 grams of protein! Berries are one of the most antioxidant-rich fruits, so I recommend including them in your diet as often as you can. Antioxidants help protect your cells from free radicals and may help prevent heart disease, cancer, and other chronic diseases.
