5 Last-Minute Holiday Gift Ideas

If you’re on the lookout for some last-minute gifts, you’ve come to the right place! I love giving homemade food gifts to friends and family. Cookies and other baked goods are popular this time of year, but in today’s post, I’ll share some of my easy food gift ideas that are a bit healthier.

1. Nut or seed butter

If you have a food processor, making nut butter is simple. Just choose your favorite nut or seed, roast it, then blend until smooth. Try adding dark chocolate chips to hazelnut butter and maple syrup and cinnamon to pecan butter for a festive holiday twist. Check out my recipes for:

2. Granola

If you haven’t tried making my healthy hazelnut and pumpkin seed granola, I encourage you to give it a shot! I never knew how easy it was to make granola until I actually did it. Many granolas are super sweet and during this time of year, it’s nice to have something that is more of a healthy and filling snack. For an easy gift, just add granola to a mason jar and add a bow and a label.

3. Trail mix

Even simpler than granola because it doesn’t have to be baked is trail mix. Combine a variety of nuts, seeds, dried fruit, and chocolate chips in a mason jar. Using dried cranberries or cherries and pumpkin seeds can give your trail mix a festive flare; you could even add red and green M&M’s. Add a bow and a label and you’re done!

4. Seasoning blend

Seasoning blends are another great option when it comes to homemade gifts. Spices can be found in bulk at Fred Meyer, New Seasons, or Bob’s Red Mill. Spices are much cheaper when you buy them in bulk so they make for very budget-friendly gifts. Some of my favorite seasonings to make are:

5. Local produce basket

Head to your local farmers market and pick out some of your favorite fruits and vegetables. There may not be as many produce options this time of year, but Portland still has some great farmers markets open. Arrange your produce in a basket or gift bag and your gift is ready to go!

Hopefully, this gives you some last-minute holiday gift ideas. I enjoy giving food-based gifts and I know many people enjoy receiving them! One final gift idea is a gift card for nutrition counseling at Wholesome Health - if you have a friend or family member interested in meeting with a dietitian, I’m sure a gift card would be very much appreciated! Happy Holidays!
